BSL Level 1 is the perfect place to start your BSL journey. Upon achieving this qualification, learners should be able to communicate with deaf people in British SIgn Language (BSL) on a range of topics using basic everyday language.
BSL Level 1 is divided into 3 units:
BSL 101
BSL 102
BSL 103
Unit 101 - will introduce you to fingerspelling and basic BSL. This is the first unit of level 1 which will cover topics used in basic everyday conversations and will give you confidence when communicating with deaf people.
This Unit will provide you with information on basic BSL grammar and vocabulary. An assessment will be taken at the end of the course.

Unit 102 - Conversational BSL - This unit allows learner to develop on their productive and receptive skills and understand a wider range of topics.

-Describing people, animals and objects
-Interests and activities
-Food and drink
Unit 103 - Communication in BSL about everyday life - This unit continues to cover productive and receptive skills and the term 'everyday life' relates to work, school, environments, routines etc.

Getting around
Sharing information
Weather
Assessments
Each unit requires an assessment and all 3 passed be passed to gain the qualification. The assessment includes a video recorded conversation with a qualified BSL teacher
The assessments can be either face-to-face or via Zoom.
Successful candidates results will be registered with ‘Signature’.
